Integrated competition league
- Current events
The following events (BR ‘private matches’) are run from the UL Boathouse. These are permitted on a historical basis by the BR national competitions committee (in a similar fashion to the situation on the Isis).

The Allom cup is open to all clubs within the UL confederation and IC.
The UH events have traditionally been restricted to UH-eligible crews (current members of one of the six UH clubs, qualified or employed within the affiliated NHS Trust).
The UH regattas and head race have included entries from non-UH-eligible crews. The UH regattas have usually placed these into an ‘invitational’ category.
Some of the regattas (including the UH Novice regatta) operate a limited repecharge system to ensure that all entrants get at least two races, with losers from the first round competing towards a ‘B’ final.
The UH head race has included significant non-UH-eligible entry and there is already integration of UH-eligible and other crews in the same event.
The UH Bumps have maintained a requirement for UH-eligibility for entry for the first VIIIs of each club, but some relaxation on the entry criteria has been allowed on a case-by-case basis for other crews.
- Competitor status definition
- Novice – Not rowed before the start of the academic year – no change;
- Intermediate (‘junior’) – General principle of no BR points (i.e. BR ‘novice’) but adjusted to permit the entry of the first VIIIs of smaller clubs and the second VIIIs from small and medium clubs (even if BR points).
- Open (‘senior’) – No restriction (intended to include most first VIIIs) (no change)
Once a person is in a category they cannot be moved within the academic year except to open and back and then only on an exception basis.
Coxes – coxes need at least 30 hours of Tideway experience before they will be allowed to cox ‘novice’ crews in competition. Coxes are otherwise not subject to event classification.
- League
The results from these four events will be combined into a single league:

Points allocation
-
- Regattas
Points are accrued by winning races!
Two points are awarded to the crew that wins each two-abreast race.
The maximum number of points that any crew can achieve in any one event is 8.
Crews benefitting from a bye but losing in their first race are assumed to lose in the first round.
For each race:
Two abreast – 2 points to winner; 0 points to loser
Three abreast – 3 points to winner*; 1 point to second crew; 0 points to third.

Bumps are not part of the series competition at present.
- Organisation
Events will continue to be organised by the responsible club.
The water-based events will continue to be run, in as far as it is practicable, in accordance with BR rules of racing and the principles of ‘Row-safe’.
The responsible club committee will designate a safety advisor and welfare officer.
Each event will continue to designate a Chief Umpire (Chairman of the Race Committee) who will be responsible for the safety and fairness of the event.
In as far as is possible, waterborne roles will be allocated to those of suitable experience, which may include invited licenced umpires to fill the roles of key race officials.
Students with suitable experience should be encouraged to take on marshalling and driving duties and more formalised training should be provided. Students wishing to take on these roles are encouraged to volunteer for driving duties in the main affiliated head races (e.g. HOR4s, HORR etc).
